Global Read Aloud Celebration tomorrow!!
Good times must come to an end, so let's celebrate!
Therefore, for us to celebrate the final day of the Global Read Aloud, November 13th, I invite you to participate in the Glow Ball Read Dahl Loud!
How do you participate?
GLOW = if possible, get some colorful glow sticks
BALL = get dressed up like you’re going to a fancy ball
READ = you know how to do that!
DAHL = find your favorite Roald Dahl poem
LOUD = now read it as LOUD as you can!!
So join us on November 13th as we culminate our read aloud with a massive celebration of the beauty of reading aloud.

Wednesday, November 11th
This morning, we were surprised with a wonderful Indian treat from Sohan's family. Everyone loved the sweet and slightly spice taste of the cookies. For an afternoon snack, we also had Seasme brittle and Punjabi Biscuits. The children were very brave trying new tastes!
In math today, we have focused on telling time to the hour and half hour. We will continue working on telling time to the five minute. One of the most challenging tasks that the kids have is to use and understand the concept of half past, quarter till, and quarter past. If you can use that terminology at home that would be wonderful.
Our focus story for this week is The Rough Face Girl by Rafe Martin.
The children were amazed to see that the illustrator for this story was David Shannon.
Here is the story, if you and your child would like to listen to it together.
As part of our lesson today, we talked about what mental images are; and how we create a movie in our mind as we read. Using this strategy helps us when we retell and gain greater comprehension. For vocabulary we focused on: wigwam, cruel, and insisted. I also introduced the word haughty, proud and humble as character traits. The children also broke into groups for comprehension questions.

Happy Diwali
Happy Diwali!
Diwali is a very special holiday of India.
Today, we enjoyed learning many interesting facts about India.

Global Read Aloud
This is our last week of the Global Read Aloud. Over the past six weeks, we have been studying the works of Amy Krouse Rosenthal. During this study we read the book Chopsticks.
After finishing we practiced our own skills with marshmallows and chopsticks.
Today, Mrs. Watson's first graders shared their OK drawings. We loved seeing them.
